Hypertrophic scarring will appear around a body piercing hole. This scarring tissue will only show around the actual piercing and will not expand or grow beyond the hole.
This type of scarring will heal. To assist in the healing process, make sure that you are not wearing a piece of jewelry that is too heavy. A heavy piece of jewelry will just add to the irritation and will slow down the healing process.
Do not try and pop the scarring, as there is no puss in the scarring. You will just cause further irritation and delay the healing process.

Do not confuse Hypertrophic Scarring with a Keloid. A Keloid will grow beyond the piercing entrance and will have to be surgically removed.
